Antique Early Metalware 16thc/17thc Bronze Anointment Chalice. English.

Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

This is a wonderful small piece of early metalware coming from a retired dealers collection....he believed it to be a vessel that was carried around by a priest who would pour holy oil or water into the top and then anoint his fellow worshipers as he went around the country....it is made of bronze and as you can see from the rough casting marks underneath, it was cast in a sand mould....in excellent condition and a rare survival for its size..!

English. C16thc/17thc.
