Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in rural communities across Scandinavia, Germany, and the Alpine regions during the 18th and 19th centuries, these armoires served as storage cupboards often commissioned as marriage gifts. They frequently feature hand-painted folk art motifs, including floral displays, birds, and initials alongside the year of creation.

These cupboards were primarily constructed from locally sourced softwoods such as pine or fir, using traditional joinery methods like pegging and hand-cut dovetails. The exterior was finished with mineral-pigment tempera or oil paints applied by itinerant decorative artisans.

Genuine period pieces exhibit paint wear around keyholes and handles, uneven backboards with hand-sawn marks, and hardware such as forged iron hinges or brass escutcheons. Inscriptions often incorporate historic dating and family monograms reflecting their origin as marriage pieces.

A painted armoire functions as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, serving as a clothes wardrobe or linen storage. Pairing the decorated wooden surface with neutral walls and clean-lined contemporary furnishings balances the folk motifs.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent scratch marks on the historic paint layer. Avoid liquid cleaners, solvent-based polishes, and direct exposure to heat sources or strong sunlight to preserve the pigments.
