Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A granddaughter clock is a diminutive version of a traditional longcase or grandfather clock, usually standing under five feet in height. Introduced primarily during the early 20th century, these clocks were designed to fit into smaller domestic hallways and living spaces while maintaining classic longcase proportions.

These timepieces are commonly constructed from hardwood timbers such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with flame veneers. Dial assemblies typically incorporate brass, silvered metal, or cast spandrels, alongside glass pane apertures housing brass movements and pendulums.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, original brass dial spandrels, and natural age patina on the timber surfaces. Checking for period-appropriate winding mechanisms, maker signatures on the clock face, and consistent oxidisation on metal components helps verify authenticity.

Position the clock as a focal architectural piece in a hallway, entryway, or alcove. Pair dark mahogany timber with neutral wall tones or muted wallpaper, allowing the vertical silhouette and brass accents to complement contemporary or traditional decor.

Keep the clock case away from direct sunlight, dampness, and strong heat sources to prevent timber warping and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to the wood, and have the internal mechanical movement lubricated by a horologist every three to five years.
