Description

In superb condition a pair of very early English carved oak panels dated 1552 with gothic arched tracery at the bases with hatched and punched ground and the souls of the dead, each bearded face uniquely carved and united by large S scrolls with a panel of pomegranate seeds.

Losses, old worm and damages but solid and with a superb natural colour and rich patination. Ecclesiastic in form and possibly part of a church pulpit.

Rare and exceptionally beautiful works of art carved at the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth I and just five years after the death of Henry VIII.
