A rare Chinese carved and lacquered study of Mandarin figure

This very decorative and well carved solid hardwood figure was made for the Chinese export market and dates to circa 1890. It depicts an elaborately dressed figure of a Chinese mandarin. He is seated cross legged and is dressed in very fine red and gold ceremonial robes. Decorated with embroidered dragons and flowers. He is also wearing a matching headdress with trailing ribbons which terminate with floral tassels. This most pleasing figure is beautifully hand lacquered in a rich pallet. The surfaces show considerable age with some light fading, minor wear and some small shrinkage cracks. Generally, in very good original condition
