Original Antique George III Large Polished Copper & Brass Kettle C1800

19th century
Description

Antique George III Large Copper & Brass Stove Kettle.

We bring to you this excellent condition antique George III (circa 1800 - 1820) solid copper & brass large stove kettle.

The kettle is made with excellent quality and craftsmanship shown evidently in the brazed join to the rear of the kettles main copper body.

This simple but elegant kettle features a removable 'bee hive' lid with a shaped solid brass knob as the handle. The kettle has a swan neck braze jointed spout, however, the neck has a historic repair being soldered at some stage as shown. Curved brass brackets support the copper handle which is riveted to the body. This kettle looks amazing with its beautiful highly polished copper finish perfect for any period home or even as a stand out piece in a contemporary theme. We have sympathetically restored this item by highly polishing the copper and brass maintaining original metal patina.

Please note this item is in very good condition for its age but will have the odd blemish here and there, as expected with an item of this age. However, we feel that these points are which adds to the charm of the item with it being an antique.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian copper kettles, produced between 1714 and 1830, were functional hearth vessels crafted primarily from hammered or sheet copper. They frequently feature riveted construction, gooseneck spouts, and cast brass or copper handles.

Eighteenth and early nineteenth-century copper kettles were hand-crafted using dovetailed or brazed seams, joined with hard solder. Handles were attached with sturdy brass or copper rivets, and interiors were traditionally lined with tin to prevent chemical reactions with liquids.

Authentic George III pieces exhibit hand-hammered surface texture, dovetailed seam joints along the base or back, and heavy riveted handle mounts. They usually display signs of historic tinning on the interior and minor irregularities characteristic of hand forging.

An antique copper kettle adds visual warmth to a contemporary kitchen when displayed on open timber shelving or a range cooker hearth. It can also serve as a rustic accent on a dining sideboard or beside a living room fireplace.

To maintain the polished finish, gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth and apply a specialised copper polish sparingly. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners or steel wool that can scratch the metal, and ensure the piece remains completely dry to prevent unwanted oxidisation.
