A very authentic, substantial and charming WELSH oak side table in the original, as the time it was made, state of preservation. Now with over two and a half centuries of natural aged patination, and rich colour. With most attractive shaped apron beneath the drawer and to the sides. The drawer retaining the original ring pull handles and escutcheon. the legs with finely executed, slim chamfer to the inside corners. Having the original central stretcher so that a chair can be drawn up and used as a writing table. The top with well measured and spaced peg work has enabled it to remain very flat to this day.
For a provincial table, this is a very sophisticated piece of furniture and has been lovingly cared for and given the respect it duly deserves. Sourced from a mid Wales country cottage where we think it has spent its life.
Welsh, Circa 1740-50.
