Quality Shoolbred Inlaid Zodiac Centre Drum Table

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare Seraton Revival mahogany and inlaid 'Zodiac' drum table from the esteemed workshops of James Shoolbred of London. The circular revolving top having interwoven vine leaves, berries and harebells with the 12 signs of the Zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces) and all set within 3 lines of ebony and boxwood stringing with satinwood cross banding. The edge having 2 further lines of boxwood stringing above the four drawers which all have inlay of harebell drapes, central oval flower motifs and further satinwood cross banding with boxwood and ebony stringing, all having good pen work. The handles retaining most of the original gilding and each drawer has polished mahogany linings and good quality brass locks with key. The octagonal tapering column inlaid with satinwood banding between boxwood and ebony stringing joining the 4 out-swept legs with further conforming marquetry inlay and capped with square bass cup casters.
