Webberley Antiques has dated this piece to the Before 1700 period.
The chest was made as a purely functional piece of furniture to store precious items and it was probably made for a child.
Heavy and robust. Retaining original wire hinges, the iron lock plate is original also and much remains of the riveted hasp.
Made by hand in c. 1630 , alovely solid and early example of great charm and particularly good colour and patina and of very rare small size.
Dimensions are:
21 inches wide, 13 inches deep and 13 inches high.
