Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian music stands were popularised in nineteenth-century homes to accommodate private musical performances and reading. They are typically characterised by turned timber shafts, tripod bases, and adjustable fretwork rest desks, often incorporating classical musical motifs such as lyres.

These stands were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The internal height-adjustment mechanisms and tilt fixings usually incorporated cast or drawn brass fittings.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery techniques, such as hand-cut dovetails or hand-turned wooden components, alongside natural brass oxidisation on mechanical parts. Original wood finishes typically show age-appropriate wear, light scratching, and a deep patina around high-touch adjustment knobs.

An antique music stand functions effectively as an accent piece in a study, drawing room, or music space. It can be used to display open art books, sheet music, or prints, standing independently in an empty corner or beside a piano.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the stand away from direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent timber warping, and lubricate mechanical brass elements sparingly with mineral oil if necessary.
