Description

Pair of late 19th century French statues,c1890. Standing on turned wood (probably ebony) bases, they are well cast in either bronze or patinated cast metal and are heavy at 4kg the pair. Both have original labels on the base, one is rubbed but the other is entitled 'Modestie' so the other figure is undoubtedly 'Gaiete' as they were often depicted as a pair during this period. Both statues have great colour/patina and are in good original antique condition. One statue may have had a small repair to the base but it is very minor.
