WW1 military pocket watch by Ehrhardt.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has the military arrow, or pheon, and carries the number D24591 which is repeated on the back of the watch and also on the side of the watch.

The watch measures 55mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop so larger than a standard 50mm watch. It is a chunky heavy piece and was known as “the rabbit killer” due it’s size and weight. The case is nickel and overall it is in good condition with just the odd small mark.

The glass lens has very light marking, barely noticeable to the naked eye.

The dial is signed W Ehrhardt, London. Original hands although a little of the blued steel finish has worn off. There are a few hairline cracks.

William Ehrhardt was initially purely a manufacturing concern with premises in Birmingham. He exhibited at the International Exhibition of London in 1862 and by 1880 was manufacturing around 500 watches each week. In 1898, the company expanded into retail with premises in London.
