Art Deco Bronze Stallion

1920 - 1940
Description

A lightly cold painted bronze horse from the Art Deco period. The stepped alabaster base has a small fracture to the lower section but hardly detracts from the piece. Most likely used as an ornament but could have been made as a paper weight as many were. The overall condition is very good with only light dusting marks on the horse. An attractive sculpture that seems to stand very well, a great gift for someone.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco animal sculptures feature streamlined forms, stylised contours, and a focus on movement and geometric symmetry.

These sculptures were typically cast in bronze or spelter and finished with patinas ranging from dark brown to gold tones, often mounted on bases carved from marble, alabaster, or onyx.

Authentic period pieces exhibit precise casting details, age-appropriate surface wear, traditional hand-applied patination, and clean geometric shaping on the natural stone plinth.

Position the sculpture as a focal accent on an executive desk, a dark wood bookcase, or a mantelpiece, paired with minimalist ceramics or architectural volumes.

Dust the bronze gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or abrasive metal polishes that strip the patina, while wiping the stone base with a slightly damp cloth.
