Good Georgian Mahogany Corner Display Cabinet C. 1820

18th century
Description

A very beautiful Georgian corner display cabinet with single astagral glazed door with original hinges, escutcheon and a working (later but well fitted) lock and key. The blind fretwork carved frieze of Chinese Chippendale design beneath an ogee shaped cornice.

.

Complete and original, the cabinet is very heavy and retains its original oak backboards.

.

The cabinet was made to display porcelain and silver and has five well shaped fixed shelves each with plate groove to back and all in solid and usable condition.

.

It is quite unusual to find a full height display cabinet retaining its original glass and of attractive and fairly small proportions. A later pine batten has been attached to the top of the back boards on one side with brass brackets so that the cabinet can easily be secured to a wall. This can be removed if not required.

.

A lovely fine piece of early mahogany furniture in excellent condition for age.

.

.

Dimensions are:

.

76.5 inches tall, 29 inches wide and 20.25 inches if you measure each side.

.

From centre of the front to the back corner is 16 inches.

.

Height above each fixed shelf is: top – 11 inches, then all are 10 inches, with 11 inches between bottom board and shelf above. There are a few more inches in height above the top shelf but I have given the measurement for visible space.
