1920 - 1940
Description

The Lighthouse, Newhaven. Oil Painting by William Hyams (1878-1952). An extremely well executed oil painting of the Lighthouse at Newhaven in Sussex. Fishermen in their boats to the foreground with the lighthouse in the middle ground and a large cloudy sky with boats in the distance giving good perspective. Canvas laid on board. Initialed with a 1936 Brighton Art Galleries Exhibition label to reverse.

William Hyams (1878-1952) was born in Portsmouth, but spent his childhood in Guernsey and is known for his land and seascapes.
