William Hyams (1878-1952) was born in Portsmouth, but spent his childhood in Guernsey and is known for his land and seascapes. He studied at Brighton School of Art and spent some years at sea which gave him the opportunity to paint marine subjects. Exhibited at the R.A., R.I., in the provinces, and abroad. Painted many Sussex land and coastal scenes and was represented in various Brighton and Hove Art Galleries and was also Chairman of the Brighton Arts Club in 1947.
