George II & Later Walnut Secretaire Chest

18th century
Description

A good quality George II and later walnut secretaire chest, the top with projecting canted corners over two short drawers, secretaire drawer and two long drawers, the cross banded borders with feather line inlay, gilt brass rococo handles and flanked by channel moulded pilasters with gilt gesso Corinthian column capitals, raised on ogee bracket feet.

This appears to be the upper section of an early 18th century chest on chest, skillfully adapted in the late 19th century for use as a secretaire. The uppermost long drawer with a drop front released by two brass buttons at either end of the drawer and the interior fitted with compartments and small drawers. The are oak lined and with original handles. The ogee bracket feet appear to be original, taken from the lower section of the chest on chest.

113cm high, 120cm wide including the projecting canted corners, 55cm deep.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
