Antique George III Georgian Inlaid Mahogany Secretaire Chest on Chest Restored C1800

A truly remarkable Georgian Secretaire Chest on Chest.

We are delighted to bring to you one of the finest examples of a very rare George III (circa 1800) 7 deep drawer Mahogany Secretaire chest on chest which comes apart into 2 parts for easy transportation. The top section consists of an attractive moulded and inlaid cornice with an arrangement of 2 smaller drawers over 3 descending drawers which the latter opens to reveal a fitted secretaire interior.

The ornate secretaire interior includes 10 pigeon holes, 8 of which have a top shaped frieze and 6 drawers which are flame grain with boxwood edges and small brass knobs. The interior also unusually has a central locking (original key) cupboard with an inlaid door to mimic the exterior, complete with black writing surface and pencil holders either side.

The bottom section features 2 vast drawers which stand on its original solid mahogany shaped bracket feet complete with opposing figured grain.

The chest on chest features the most ornate inlays to the drawers which consists of Mahogany, Satinwood, Boxwood and Ebony in a framed design with canted corners. The chest also has the most beautiful ornate cast fine quality brass dropper handles and is complete with matching escutcheons in-front of their original working brass locks throughout with original key.

This extremely well made chest on chest is in an outstanding original fully restored condition featuring its beautiful warm colour and highly glazed French polished finish.

This beautiful period piece is ideal for the person who needs a desk and mass storage space without wanting to see office related items.

The secretaire drawer opens smoothly and folds flat and the finely dovetailed oak lined Mahogany drawers are in great condition, smoothly operating with little to no drawer wear and are very clean inside. The Secretaire compartment latches effortlessly with its original side latches and stays which are made from solid brass and are of the highest quality.

We have restored this chest on chest with many hours work and no expense has been spared in its full restoration whilst maintaining original patina and charm as you can tell from the finished result.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
