Description

An 18th century tooth key with two interchangeable claws - two different sizes.

Wooden handle, most likely ebony, with a steel shaft and two steel keys. The second key is marked with the figure two presumably this is the size.

An example of a similar toothkey is illustrated in Antique Dental Instruments by Elizabeth Bennion, page 43 plate 29. Refers to this type of key being the Garengeot and is of English manufacture and origin. Circa 1770 in date.

The steel is in super condition and rare to find one with two claws. There is damage to one end of the handle, please see photograph.
