Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The vitrine gained prominence in 18th-century France during the Reign of Louis XV and continued through the 19th century. Designed specifically to showcase precious collectibles, porcelain, and curiosities, these cabinets featured glass panels on multiple sides and ornate gilded metal mounts.

Traditional French vitrines are typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood, often featuring marquetry or parquetry veneers. They are embellished with hand-cast chased gilt bronze ormolu mounts and incorporate hand-blown or curved glass panels.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-chased metalwork with visible casting seams on the reverse of mounts, natural oxidisation, and hand-cut joinery within the timber frame. Modern reproductions often feature machine-cast brass mounts, uniform plating, and contemporary glass production marks.

Place the cabinet against a neutral wall in a living room, hallway, or dining space to allow the intricate metalwork and curved timber profile to act as a focal point. Use it to display structured modern ceramics or glass collections to create a balanced contrast between historical and contemporary elements.

Dust the timber with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally, avoiding contact with the metal mounts. Clean metal mounts gently with a soft dry brush to prevent removing historical gilding, and clean glass surfaces using a cloth lightly dampened with water.
