Gents WW1 silver trench watch, 1916.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the articulated lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London (import mark) 1916. The case has a couple of small knocks to the bezel and unevenness to the back but all very acceptable for a WW1 piece.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, John Purser & Sons, and the name ‘Military Watch’. The dial is in lovely condition. At some stage in its life, the original luminous painted detail has been removed from the numbers and the hands because of the radium content.

The company John Purser & Sons was listed as “Jewellers to The Admiralty”. In the 1920s, the company merged with Picketts and they are still trading today under the name Picketts & Pursers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
