A beautifully made solid silver Victorian brooch set with polished malachite shaped in the form of a vivid green ivy leaf.

To the Victorians, well versed in the language of flowers, ivy represented enduring love, whether that of a deep friendship or a marriage. Scottish jewellery such as this was made popular by Queen Victoria from the mid 1800s when she frequently visited Scotland and her Scottish castle Balmoral.

The brooch is in excellent antique condition.
