Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A longcase clock, commonly known as a grandfather clock, is a tall, floor-standing pendulum clock housed inside a protective wooden cabinet, widely produced throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Nineteenth-century longcase clocks were typically constructed from cabinet woods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring painted iron or brass arch dials, glass apertures, and internal brass clockwork movements driven by lead weights.

Authentic examples feature hand-painted arch dials displaying maker names and locations, original weight-driven eight-day or thirty-hour movements, hand-cut timber joinery, and natural age-related patination on the casing.

Position the clock as an architectural focal point in an entryway, hallway, or dining space alongside clean-lined contemporary furnishings to create a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, applying beeswax polish sparingly along the wood grain, positioning away from direct heat sources or sunlight, and ensuring the movement is regularly serviced by a qualified horologist.
