Two pulls support the front which opens to reveal a series of small pigeon holes, drawers and a small cupboard. There are also two small secret drawers hidden at the back of the cupboard which can be revealed by pushing the back piece of wood. The lock has been removed at some point but there is a key to aid opening the sloped front. The bureau stands on bracket feet.

It is in good condition for its age and the oak has mellowed to a lovely light colour over the years. There are general signs of age and use, some old knocks, marks, small splits and a few small repairs but no major damages and the piece is strong and sturdy. The interior is in good condition with a few old surface marks and stains but nothing detrimental. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside with their original blue penny paper linings. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
