N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This lovely antique mantel clock has a beautiful walnut case with a fantastic rich colour and grain.
There are then a selection of mouldings as well as an array of detailed gilt mounts which contract the walnut perfectly. There are then two fretwork panels in each side backed with lovely light blue silk. There are then further shaped mouldings to the bottom as well as two shaped feet to the front and two round feet to the back.
The dial is then arched with a silvered chapter ring set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring setting out the minutes and every five minutes marked in Arabic numerals. There is then a further “SLOW FAST” chapter ring to the arch. The dial then has fantastically intricate fretworks to both the arch and the bottom corners. Finally the dial has a silvered frame, two shaped fingers and a bevelled protective glass set into the door.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is ticking away and chiming as it should and chimes one ting tang on the quarter past, two on the half past, three on the quarter to, and the number of hours on the hour via two gongs. The clock also comes complete with its pendulum and winding key. Finally the movement is signed by the maker “49 LENZKIRCH AMG 1 MILLION 58552”.
