Pair of early C19th French cast-iron lions with a bronze patination, mounted on portoro marble plinth bases .

Finely-cast pair of lions depicting treading upon a serpent or snake , the serpent coiled around their bodies .The lions portrayed in a powerful stance , their mouths open and muscular bodies taut .

Mounted upon original well-figured plinth bases of portoro marble .

The symbolism of the pose probably being of the lion representing God whilst the serpent is the Devil , hence shown defeating evil .

In excellent condition with great presence. Good scale and proportions .
