An 18th Century Small Lantern Clock

Description

An early 18th century English lantern clock of small proportions. A brass case with a silvered chapter ring and a matted dial centre. An anchor escapement, rope driven 'birdcage' design mechanism. Nicely finished steel work to the mechanism. Brass opening side doors and a fixed brass backplate. A bell strap surmounted by a brass finial. The original hook and spike to the case back. A 30 hour duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell on a shorter pendulum. Circa 1725.

Height of clock (to top of finial) 12" / 30 cms Width & Depth 6 1/2" / 16 cms

Very few half size or miniature English lantern clocks were made. In Loomes' Lantern Clocks book some are illustrated with size definitions explained.
