Rare straw opal champagne glass with optical ribbing. Designed by Harry Powell Whitefriars c1880.
Condition: Very good condition.
Rim: 10.2 cm.
Foot: 6.5 cm.
Note: Straw opal is a pale milky yellow glass developed by Harry Powell between 1877 - 1879. Ingrediants such as arsenic, bone ash and uranium were added to make the glass heat-sensitive, so when cooled in localised areas and then reheated the parts which had been cooled turned opalescent.
