George V Silver Box Birmingham 1916

Description

A George V silver lidded box with clear hallmarks on the box and lid for Birmingham gram 1916 and a makers mark, probably AWP for Arthur Wilmore Pennington. The box has a cylindrical form with a hinged lid. The box has embossed foliage and scrolled decoration all over with a vacant shield on the top of the lid. The interior is sumptuously gilded, a mark of quality. Such boxes were no doubt used for personal valuables such as jewellery, rings and coins. Excellent condition.
