Georgian Revival Solid Silver Sugar Caster by the Barker Brothers, Birmingham 1939

Description

This very elegant George VI silver vase-shaped sugar caster is dated Birmingham 1939 and bears the marks of the Barker Brothers. Modelled on early George II casters (circa 1730) the baluster body with a detachable pierced cover. The cover with baluster finial and alternating vertical bands or ornate piercing. Raised on a circular pedestal base.

Hallmarks:

Fully marked on the body.

Partial marks on the inner lid.

BB S LD for the Barker Brothers.

Birmingham Assay Mark.

Lion Passant.

Date letter "P" for 1939.

Dimensions:

Height: 17cm / 6.3 inches.

Diameter:5.5cm / 2.1 inches.

Weight: 100 g / 3.1 oz.

Condition:

Very good.

No dents.

Stable on its base.

Maker's marks partially rubbed but identifiable.
