Barraud & Lunds Dome Topped Fusee Timepiece

A fine single fusee timepiece by Barraud and Lunds London, numbered 8141 on both the dial and back plate. The eight day movement with pendulum lock, is housed in an unusually thin case suggesting it was designed to sit on a specific mantel. The silver roman dial is behind convex glass held in a brass bezel with a side lock, the movement is accessed by a lockable solid mahogany door.
 
Barraud and Lunds was the final iteration of one of the best clockmaking firms in 19th century Britain. Founded in 1838 when the clockmaking dynasty of Barrauds was joined by John Richard Lund to form Barrauds and Lund. In 1869 Lund’s two sons John Alexander and Arthur Jackson Lund joined the firm it became Barraud and Lunds and is known to have been operating from 14 Bishopsgate street in 1870. The company was dissolved in 1902 with the death of John Alexander Lund, dating this clock to within this 32 year period.
