George III Mahogany Bureau

18th century
Description

George III mahogany bureau

This George III mahogany bureau was made circa 1785.

This George III mahogany bureau would have been made for a major property on an important estate in the North Country. The superb timber would have been selected by the cabinetmaker to utilise the wonderful ‘plum pudding’ in the wonderful grain. (It is known as plum pudding as the mahogany looked like a plum pudding)

Having 4 long graduated drawers, with the original brass bale swing handles.

The fall is opened to reveal drawers, pigeonholes, and a door to the centre, that in turn opens to reveal a storage space and a further 2 drawers.

A bureau is one of my own personal favourite items of Georgian furniture as they not only have the wow factor closed but also when you open the fall you have the pleasure of seeing the wonderful and interesting interior. It allows for instant tidy up, as you can quickly close the fall!!

Imagine the pride of ownership having this George III mahogany bureau and the pleasure you will have sat at it as you work on your i-pad or computer.

111cms wide at base 43 1/2ins

57cms deep 22 1/2ins

107cms high 42ins

All dimensions are approximate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
