Pair of late C19th George I period revival carved walnut and parcel-gilt console tables and mirrors.
Highly decorative pair of carved gilt-wood based console tables of shaped outline with cross-banded walnut tops and cross-grained moulded sectional edges in the early C18th manner . The shapely gilded friezes and feather-carved supports having well-executed carved detail. The gilding having achieved a mellow, period style surface and patina.
The pair of walnut and parcel-gilt framed mirrors with period-style slightly distressed atmospheric silvered plates . Elaborate carved gilt-wood ribbon-tied flower vase crestings and acanthus scroll mouldings to the ‘broken arch’ pediments and shaped frames . The walnut and gilt having a corresponding faded period-style patina and surface to the console tables . The outline of the base of the mirrors being of matching shape to the outline of the tables . The verso having convincingly-aged boards with apocryphal dates of 1714 , initials ‘W.L. London’ and an armorial style crest or cypher carved into the distressed surface.
