A magnificent original chest of drawers.

We are delighted to bring to you one of the finest examples of a rare large Victorian (circa 1860) 6 deep descending drawer chest of drawers. This truly superb condition grand chest of drawers features fine flame grain book-matched Mahogany to all of the drawer fronts. The bottom drawer on this chest is a large drawer which reaches to the plinth. Interestingly an old wives tale is that these drawers were lined with blankets and used as a make-shift cot for newborn babies.

This stunning chest of drawers is in an outstanding original condition featuring its original beautiful lightly faded French polished finish with a lovely sought after mahogany colour. The chest also features fine quality original turned mahogany knobs and brass keyhole escutcheons in front of its original locks (no keys). The finely dovetailed Mahogany lined drawers are in fantastic condition, smoothly operating and are very clean inside complete with their original blue paper lining which is also in superb condition. The drawer runners have been repaired and rebuilt as necessary so this chest has no drawer drop when opened, they work smoothly good for many more years of use. The chest stands on slim bun feet finishing to original castors making it easier to move around a little.

There are no loose joints or wobbles and the chest is free from woodworm.

We have just carefully cleaned and waxed this chest, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
