The upper tray lifts out to reveal the vacant interior below, also covered in finest maroon velvet. The interior of the lid is decorated with a leather embossed and gilded panel with ruched velvet inside.

The exterior surfaces are all in very good condition with brass bindings to the corners and escutcheon, plus a blank central cartouche (ideal for personalising as a gift, or for your family crest). The base is covered in green baize for protection. The box comes complete with its original working key.
