Ebonised Bracket Clock, Regency. Stunning Thwaites Example

Sold by: Clockwise

Clockwise is proud to present another prestigious bracket clock for your consideration. This is a superb and rare example of this famous maker''s work and is in lovely condition. The eight day, double fusee, high quality anchor escapement movement is stamped on the front plate ''Thwaites'' and numbered 3370 which according to Thwaites & Reed dates the clock to 1804. The backplate has the traditional edged engraving which is typical of the period and is similar to many early examples of his work documented in bracket clock books. The rack striking movement strikes the full hour on the original bell and there is a strike/silent lever at the XII, revealed when the case door is opened. The movement has just been serviced and as such benefits from my three year guarantee.

There are similar examples of this clock on the market from lesser makers at a cheaper price but they are mostly unrestored and as a movement overhaul is £1200 and a case refurbishment £500 as is a dial restoration, this clock represents fantastic value and gives peace of mind.

The convex dial is in fantastic condition and is complimented by Thwaites'' original blued hands which appear on most of his work from this period. The ebonised case is impressive with its brass-bordered single pad and brass carrying handle to the top and has brass fish scale frets to the side and front with red silk lining behind. Both front and back keyed locks are working and the case has a glazed rear door displaying the movement. Standing on original ogee feet this is a prime example of a very collectable clock, there are very few of these on the open market. Delivery can be arranged, please ask for details.
