Antique Single Chain Fusee Slate and Bronze Egyptian Clock Barraud & Lund London

19th century
Description

Antique Single Chain Fusee Slate And Bronze Egyptian Clock Barraud Lund London.

This stunning antique single fusee clock has an extremely heaving shaped slate case. The top of the case has a bronze Sphinx on a rectangular section. This then leads to a large shaped top. The body of the case then slants slightly to the sides and has top shaped columns to the front each engraved with fine Egyptian hieroglyphs and scenes. The base is then shaped, stepping gradually down.

The dial is then gold plated and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The centre of the dial then has a lovely gnarled effect. The top of the dial is then signed by the maker “BARRAUD & LUNDS 41. CORNHILL LONDON”. The dial is then finished by two lovely shaped hands, a patterned surround, and a thick bevelled glass.

The movement is then a single chain fusee example of the upmost quality. It works perfectly and comes complete with its regulating pendulum, travel nut, and winding key. The movement is then signed to the back by the maker “Barraud & Lund Cornhill London”.

It measures approximately:

- 18.25” / 46.5cm Tall.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Egyptian Revival clocks emerged in the nineteenth century following European military campaigns and archaeological discoveries in Egypt, incorporating motifs such as sphinxes, obelisks, and hieroglyphic engravings into classic Victorian horological designs.

Victorian mantel clocks often utilised heavy black slate or Belgian black marble cases, decorated with cast bronze or brass figures, incised details, and brass dials housing precision mechanical movements.

An authentic chain fusee movement features a conical gear connected to a mainspring barrel via a fine metal chain, engineered to equalise power distribution as the spring unwinds.

Position the piece as a focal point on a dark wood mantelpiece, a library bookcase, or a mahogany console table to complement eclectic, dark academia, or traditional decor schemes.

Clean black slate cases using a soft, dry lint-free cloth and an occasional application of mineral oil to restore deep colour, whilst dusting bronze elements gently without harsh chemical polish.
