Rare Victorian Coral & Silver Mounted Citrine Glass Scent Bottle, Circa 1870

Description

This is a unique and beautiful Victorian silver mounted cut glass scent bottle. The faceted body a rare citrine colour. The neck with a spring and catch mounted engraved hinged silver lid, incrusted with coral cabochons. The centre with initialled cartouche .The early spring-cap mechanism is claimed to have been invented by Thomas Diller (1828-1851) and is indicative of only the best quality pieces. The base star incised.

Hallmarks:

Unmarked as it was very often the case with scent bottle lids but tested as silver.

Dimensions:

Length: 8cm - 3 inches.

Diameter: 2.7cm - 1 inch.

Condition:

Glass in very good condition.

Inside of neck in excellent condition. No cracks.

Silver lid in very good condition.
