Kays Keyless “Triumph” pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement by Revue which is working nicely. Kays bought in watches to be labelled and sold under their own name.

The movement is protected by an inner dust cover which is engraved with the wording, ‘Presented to Ronald W Robinson, on the occasion of his 21st birthday, from Father and Mother’.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is rolled gold and the hinged case back has the RWR initials in a beautifully ornate script. Overall, the case is in good condition, just some rubbing around the edge.

The glass lens has a 5mm scratch to the centre but otherwise is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. The dial is signed with the name Kay & Co, Worcester, the original retailer of the watch.

William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
