We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in Limoges, France, enamel plaques are decorative art pieces created by firing vitreous enamel pigments onto copper or porcelain bases. The 19th century saw a significant revival of this technique, frequently taking inspiration from Renaissance portraiture and historical dress.

These pieces were crafted using metallic oxide paints mixed with glass powder, applied in thin layers over porcelain or copper sheet. The artwork was repeatedly fired in a kiln to achieve a smooth vitreous finish before being set into gilded or ebonised timber frames.

Authentic period examples exhibit deep, multi-layered vitreous glazes, fine hand-painted detail, and subtle gilded highlights. The reverse often shows firing counter-enamel or period maker stamps consistent with French manufacture.

A framed portrait plaque functions effectively when integrated into a curated gallery wall or hung in a narrow wall alcove. It can also be displayed upright on a small easel atop a mantelpiece or sideboard.

Dust the surface regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth to prevent build-up. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents or water immersion, and keep the object away from extreme thermal changes to protect the glazed finish.
