Antique 1920s Omega pocket watch with chain.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Omega logo, and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover which has a sunburst image to the inside.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are small Continental hallmarks. Originally the case would have been niello ware but most of the niello has gone missing over the years.

Niello is a black mixture, usually of sulphur, copper, silver, and lead, used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal, usually silver. It is added as a powder or paste, then fired until it melts or at least softens, and flows or is pushed into the engraved lines in the metal.

The case back has some marks and fairly gentle unevenness. The inside of the case back has a previous owner’s name scratched in to it.

The glass lens is in lovely condition.

The signed dial has damage to the edge, between 11 and 12, and a few hairline cracks, most of which are quite faint. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers with red 24 hour numerals.

The watch comes with a white metal single chain, probably low purity silver, 48cm long including the clasps.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
