Rare Antique English Mahogany Winsor & Newton Display Case - Artist's Paints

Description

A fabulous and rare find, this is a counter-top display case made from polished Mahogany to display the range of paint colours in a tray topped with a white opaque glass panel engraved and coloured "Winsor & Newton's Moist Colours". It looks like each block in porcelain tray was sold for 6d or sixpence.

The drawer at the rear is where the blocks of paint would have been stored the which is accessed via the flush solid brass handle.

Below the paint block tray is a compartment which perhaps would have been used to store paint brushes for sale.

You may see that some of the blocks are by Reeves, the shop very likely sold a couple of brands of paint, the blocks you see are the ones that came with the case, not complete but exceptional considering the nature and age (c.1900) of the box.

Excellent condition, measuring 14" wide x 8 1/4" deep x 5" tall at rear.
