Aside from the lack of back seat rail and seat, this chair is structurally sound. With original paint, worn in places. Would work as a decorative bedroom chair.
The painted image (to follow) is of design from a London pattern book now held in The Redwood Library and Athenaeum, New Port Rhode Island. There are 14 designs in all and the leather bound volume is stamped simply T.D. A likely maker is Thomas Draper, listed in Thomas Sheraton''s ''Cabinet Dictionary'' of 1803.
These references are taken from John Boram''s excellent piece ''Makers of Dy''d, Fancy and Painted Chairs'' Regional Furniture Journal Vol. 24, 2010.
