Description

Late Georgian Welsh oak box settle c.1800. Four raised and fielded panels to the backrest with simple thumb moulded detail to the surrounding rails and mullions and an applied moulding to the top edge. Shaped arms with rounded ends on attractive turned supports. Board seat with a long planked panel lifting on iron hinges to allow useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Panelled front and sides. Raised on short turned bun feet at the front. Good condition, with several repairs, most obviously on the right hand arm and at the bottom of both the rear stiles. Particularly good grain to the timber and excellent colour. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
