A Rare Irish 18th Century Mahogany Library Cabinet of Very Small Proportions

This superb and very unusual piece was undoubtedly made by the commission as a one off. Its small shallow proportions are most unusual and were probably made for a library.

The top is made from one piece of solid rich mahogany with a simple moulded edge. The design is well balanced with a bank of four graduated drawers to each side and fitted with fretted brass handles and escutcheons in the centre. It has a recessed knee hole cupboard with a drawer and a writing slide above. It stands on shaped bracket feet. This piece has good colour and a pleasing patina.

On the back of the cabinet, inscribed in pencil is Moyne House, Durrow County Laois.
