N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This stunning antique clock has a monumental mahogany case with a fantastic rich colour and grain. The case is a “balloon” shaped example and has a lovely lions head handle to each side. There is then a moulding around the base and is finished by four huge “lions paw” feet. A truly stunning case of huge proportions and rarity due to its size.
There is then lovely engraved rings as well as engraving between each numeral. The centre of the dial then has a lovely pitted effect. The dial then has two beautifully shaped blue steel hands. Finally the dial is finished by a protective glass set into a brass bezel which is held in place by a lever to the left of the case.
The movement is then a double chain fusee example of the upmost quality and is wound from the front and accessed from the back. The movement then strikes via a bell and ticks away as it should. The movement also comes complete with its huge regulating pendulum, winding key, and travel nut.
