Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An oval writing table is a free-standing desk featuring a rounded or elliptical surface, typically topped with leather to provide a smooth surface for writing and correspondence. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, these versatile tables were designed to function both as central writing desks and as elegant dressing tables in traditional interiors.

Traditional writing tables from the 19th century were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak. The writing surfaces often featured embossed leather insets, while structural stability was supported by turned, fluted, or cabriole wooden legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic historical writing tables often show natural patina, historic wear to the leather inset, and hand-cut joinery on the underside framing. Original brass castors, carved decorative spandrels, and hand-turned fluting on the legs are also key markers of period craft production.

An oval mahogany table can be positioned in a bay window, behind a sofa, or used as a central home office desk to create a focal point. Pairing dark wood tones with minimalist seating or contemporary lighting balances historical elegance with modern functionality.

Maintain the wood surface by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly along the grain. Clean the leather inset with a damp cloth and apply dedicated leather conditioner annually to prevent drying or cracking.
