English 'campaign' 5-glass Library Clock Of Excellent Quality. Circa 1850.

A small and superb timepiece of good proportions.
 
The 8 day duration chain fusee movement with a 15 jewel, ratchet tooth, side lever platform escapement that also has screw-fixed chatons, over-coil balance spring and temperature compensated, bi-metallic and cut balance wheel. The rear edge having an engraved index scale and also “FAST” and “SLOW”. The movement has Harrison’s maintaining power and the rectangular and substantial plates have turned and shaped pillars and fixing brackets.
 
Behind a 3 7/8” x 4 1/2” rectangular engraved and silvered brass dial with outer minute track and Roman hour numerals. This is framed with a silvered and chamfered sight casting and the blued steel hands are spade style.
 
Contained in a 5-glass, mahogany case with all-round mouldings. The stepped top has a flat viewing glass that is framed with a recessed, silver plated casting with an integral folding handle lying within it. The full-size locking front door has a bevelled glass panel. The sides ...
