Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian burr walnut furniture is defined by highly decorative surface veneers cut from walnut tree growths, displaying complex swirling grain figures. During the nineteenth century, cabinetmakers favoured this timber for accent tables, using bookmatched techniques to create symmetrical patterns across table tops.

Tables from this period typically featured solid wood cores, such as pine or mahogany, covered with thin burr walnut veneers. Bases were often constructed from solid walnut or stained hardwood, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display natural variations in veneer thickness, evidence of hand-finishing, and age-appropriate wear to undersides and joints. Original brass castors, hand-cut screws, and genuine patina in unpolished areas also indicate historical authenticity.

Position the piece as a central focal point paired with modern upholstered seating to create textural contrast. Combining rich timber figures with neutral contemporary fabrics balances historical character with modern aesthetics.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain direction. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer lifting, or bleaching.
