Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian card table is a piece of 19th-century gaming furniture designed with a hinged fold-over top, which often swivels to reveal an internal playing surface. Popular during the 19th century for parlour games, these tables frequently feature decorative veneers like burr walnut and intricate marquetry inlays.

These tables were predominantly constructed using solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany as a substructure, faced with figure-rich veneers like burr walnut or rosewood. The intricate floral marquetry was crafted using contrasting timber inlays, including boxwood, holly, or satinwood, set above turned supports and cast iron or brass castors.

Authentic Victorian pieces display hand-carved details, turned pillar supports, and original brass or ceramic castors beneath quadruped legs. Look for natural shrinkage along timber joints, aged patina on the playing surface lining, and hand-cut dovetail joints within the internal swivel mechanism.

Position the table folded against a wall in an entryway or living room to serve as a compact console table. Pair it with contemporary artwork or a minimalist mirror hung above to create a deliberate contrast between historical wood craft and modern design.

Protect delicate timber veneers and marquetry inlay by positioning the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping or bleaching. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year in the direction of the grain to keep the wood hydrated.
