Pair Of Victorian Japanned & Papier Mache Salon Chairs
£495 $634 €597
Pair of Victorian japanned and papier maché salon chairs, circa 1850, the tub backs with vase splats surmounted by a cartouche containing a painted classical figure and extensively decorated with gilt scrolls, with upholstered drop in seats and raised on octagonal and turned decorated front legs, the front rails centred with classical masks.
In good, strong order overall. One of the chairs has a 19th century strenghthening support to the back. Some wear to the gilding, particularly on one chair back. The seats are sprung and in good order but the original red damask fabric is worn. I can arrange to have the seats re-covered if required.
The backs 90cm high, 46cm wide at the front, the seats 41cm deep and 44cm high.
